So the Lord said to him, Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he prays.

When the brethren found out, they led him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.

I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers' Law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today.

And when the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. And when he understood that he was from Cilicia,

Then there arose some from what is called the Synagogue of the Libertines (Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia), disputing with Stephen.

They wrote this letter by them: The apostles, the elders, and the brethren, to the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings.

And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

But Paul said to them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, being Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they drive us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and lead us out.

And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and not condemned by trial?

Then the commander came and said to him, Tell me, are you a Roman? He said, Yes.

Then immediately those who were about to examine him stood away from him; and the commander was also afraid after he fully knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

This man was seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them. Coming with the troops I rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.

Then as Paul was about to be led into the barracks, he said to the commander, May I speak to you? He replied, Do you speak Greek?

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a meddler in other people's matters.

Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this regard.
