And as Samuel turned around to go away, Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore.

And Samuel said to him, Jehovah has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.

And it happened at that time, when Jeroboam had gone out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite met him on the way; and he was clothed with a new garment, and the two were alone in the field.

And he said to Jeroboam, Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says Jehovah the God of Israel: Behold, I am tearing the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and have given ten tribes to you

And Elisha said to him, Take a bow and some arrows. So he took himself a bow and some arrows.

And he said, Open the east window; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot; and he shot. And he said, The arrow of Jehovah's deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you shall strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them.

And the man of God was angry with him, and said, You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria to finish them off! But now you will strike Syria only three times.

Thus Jehovah said to me, Go and buy for yourself a linen waistband, and put it around your waist, and do not put it in water.

And the Word of Jehovah came unto me a second time, saying,

So I went and hid it by Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me.

Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and took the waistband from the place where I had hidden it. And, behold, the waistband was rotten; it was good for nothing.

Thus says Jehovah, In this way I will spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.

For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me, says Jehovah; so that they might be a people unto Me, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory; but they would not hear.

Then you shall break the jar before the eyes of the men who go with you,

and shall say to them, Thus says Jehovah of Hosts, Even so I will break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again. And they shall bury them in Tophet until there is no place left to bury.

And the people said to me, Will you not tell us what these things signify to us, that you behave so?

Speak to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.

Your turbans shall be on your heads and your sandals on your feet; you shall neither mourn nor weep, but you shall rot away in your iniquities and mourn with one another.

And you, son of man; will it not be in the day when I take from them their stronghold, their joy and their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that upon which they set their hearts, their sons and their daughters.

I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and used parables by the hand of the prophets.

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.

Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the Word in Asia.

except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.

So when they did not agree among themselves, they were dismissed after Paul had said one word: The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you will hear His voice,

To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from Heaven; things which angels desire to look into.

Then the commander came near and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and he asked who he was and what he had done.

And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and not condemned by trial?

But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.

And Paul said, I would to God that not only you, but also all who hear me today, might become both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these bonds.

For this reason therefore I have called for you, to see you and speak with you, because for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles;

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,

for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of bonds; but the Word of God is not bound.

for you had compassion on me in my bonds, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing, yourselves, that you have a better and an enduring possession in Heaven.

And it came to pass after three days that Paul called those being chief of the Jews together. So when they had come together, he said to them: Men and brethren, though I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death,

and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.

When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put Him to death.

And when they had bound Him, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
