And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan; and he pitched his tent before the city.

And he passed through the mountains of Ephraim and through the land of Shalisha, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, and they were not there. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they did not find them.

O you who live on many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come, and the measure of your unjust gain.

Your mother was like a vine in your blood, planted by the waters, fruitful and full of branches because of many waters.

and were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

John came immersing in the wilderness and preaching an immersion of repentance for the remission of sins.

And all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all immersed by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him, Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
