But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, There are six days in which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed in them, and not on the Sabbath day.

And it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.

And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?

And He answered them, saying, Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?

The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to kill him.

Jehovah will not abandon him in his hand, nor allow him to be found guilty when he is judged.

And those who seek my life lay snares for me; and those who seek my hurt speak of destruction, and devise treachery all day long.

those who induce a man to sin by a word, and lay a snare for the judge in the gate, and turn aside the just for vanity.

For I have heard the whisperings of many, terror is all around. Proclaim, they say, and we will report it. Everyone at peace with me is watching for me to stumble and fall, saying, Perhaps he will be lured away, and we shall prevail against him, and shall take our revenge on him.

So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.

The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.

Then they asked him, Who is the man who said to you, Take up your bed and walk?

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, you have been made well. Sin no more, that a worse thing not come upon you.

For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath.

Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How can a man who is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them.

Then they said to him again, What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?

Then they reviled him and said, You are His disciple, but we are Moses' disciples.

And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to quarrel with Him forcefully, and to cross-examine Him about many things,

lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something He might say, in order to accuse Him.

So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on one of His words, in order to deliver Him to the power and the authority of the governor.

Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,

but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came forward
