And He said to them, Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.

Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.

And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, since I have nowhere to gather my fruits?
18
So he said, I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger, and there I will gather all my fruits and my goods.
19
And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.
20
But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?
21
So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Luke 18:23-25

But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.

And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God.

So it happened that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Then he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
Matthew 6:2
Therefore, when you do a deed of mercy, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have praise from men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
