Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,

to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.

And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,

So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

And Nathanael said to him, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see.

And Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (which is Bethlehem).

But as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died beside me in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath; and I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (which is Bethlehem).

So the two of them went until they came to Bethlehem. And it happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was in a stir because of them; and they said, Is this Naomi?

And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, Jehovah be with you! And they answered him, Jehovah bless you!

And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. Jehovah make the woman who is coming into your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi. And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed;

Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.

And Jehovah said to Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.

And Samuel did what Jehovah spoke, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled to meet him, and said, Do you come in peace?

Now David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons. And the man was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years among men.

And Saul said to him, Lad, whose son are you? And David answered, I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.

If your father notices and misses me, then answer, David has asked for himself a leave of absence that he might run to Bethlehem, his city, for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

And you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are insignificant among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from the days of eternity.

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

So they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:

Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

And Judah begot Pharez and Zarah by Tamar, Pharez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Aram.

And Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse,

And Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa.

And Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah.

And Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.

And Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor.

And Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the deportation into Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the deportation into Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.
