But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been immersed by him.

Then one of the lawyers answered and said to Him, Teacher, by saying these things You also insult us.

And He said, Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,

Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

And behold, one came and said to Him, Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?

And he brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

So they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.

For if the inheritance is of the Law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
