Therefore bring forth fruits worthy of repentance,

and do not think to say within yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

And now already the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore any tree which does not bear good fruit is cut off and thrown into the fire.
11
I indeed immerse you in water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire;
12
whose winnowing shovel is in His hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
Matthew 11:2-18

And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples

and said to Him, Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?

Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:

The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

And blessed is he who does not stumble because of Me.

And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.

For this is he of whom it is written: Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.

Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Immerser; but he who is least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.

And from the days of John the Immerser until now the kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.
14
And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
16
But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions,
17
and saying: We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we mourned to you, and you did not lament.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through Him might believe.

He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and yet the world did not know Him.
11
He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of God, to those believing into His name:

who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, This was He of whom I said, He who arrives after me appeared in history before me, for He existed before me.

And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
17
For the Law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
19
Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?
20
He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21
And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? He said, I am not. Are you the Prophet? And he answered, No.
22
Then they said to him, Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?
23
He said: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said.
24
Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.
25
And they asked him, saying, Why then do you immerse if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?
26
John answered them, saying, I immerse in water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.
27
It is He who, arriving after me, appeared in history before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.
28
These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was immersing.
29
The next day John sees Jesus coming toward him, and says, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30
This is He of whom I said, After me arrives a Man who appeared in history before me, for He existed before me.
31
I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I come immersing in water.
32
And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending out of Heaven like a dove, and He abode upon Him.
33
I did not know Him, but He who sent me to immerse in water said to me, Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who immerses in the Holy Spirit.
34
And I have seen and borne witness that this is the Son of God.
35
Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.
36
And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God!
John 3:27-30

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from Heaven.
28
You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, I have been sent to go before Him.

He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.

My praise shall be of You in the great assembly; I will make good My vows before those who fear Him.

Rescue me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be rescued from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters.

Do not let the flood of waters overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

Hear me, O Jehovah, for Your lovingkindness is good; turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

And hide not Your face from Your servant; for I am in trouble; hear me speedily.

Draw near to My soul, and redeem it; deliver Me because of My enemies.

You have known My reproach, and My shame, and My dishonor; My enemies are all before You.

Reproach has broken My heart, and I am full of heaviness. I looked for someone to show pity, but there was no one; and for comforters, but I found none.

They also gave Me gall for my food; and in My thirst they gave Me vinegar to drink.

Let their table become a snare before them; and to those at peace, a trap.

Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see; and make their loins shake continually.

Pour out Your indignation upon them, and let Your burning anger take hold of them.

Let their dwelling place be desolate; let no one dwell in their tents.

Add iniquity to their iniquity, and let them not come into Your righteousness.

Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life, and not be written with the righteous.

But I am lowly and in pain; let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.

Truly He has borne our sicknesses, and carried our pain; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, each one to his own way; and Jehovah has laid upon Him the iniquity of us all.

He has been oppressed, and He was afflicted; yet He opens not His mouth. He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter; and as a sheep before its shearers is mute, so He opens not His mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall declare His generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living; for the transgression of My people He was stricken.
9
And His grave was assigned with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; although He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.

Yet it pleased Jehovah to crush Him; to grieve Him; that He should give His soul as a sin-offering. He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the delight of Jehovah shall prosper in His hand.
11
He shall see the travail of His soul, and shall be fulfilled. By His knowledge shall My righteous Servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.

Therefore I will apportion to Him with the great, and He shall divide the spoils with the strong; because He has poured out His soul unto death; and He was reckoned among the transgressors; and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Daniel 9:24-26

Seventy weeks are decreed regarding your people, and regarding your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make atonement for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Holy of Holies.
