So they answered, John the Immerser; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.

And He answered and said to them, Truly, Elijah comes first and restores all things. And how it is written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt.

But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.

And some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, Behold, He is calling for Elijah.

And someone ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to Him to drink, saying, Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.

Behold, I am sending you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Jehovah.

So they said, Some say John the Immerser, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.

And His disciples asked Him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?

And Jesus answered and said to them, Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.

He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old time prophets had risen again.

So they answered and said, John the Immerser, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old time prophets has risen again.

And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? He said, I am not. Are you the Prophet? And he answered, No.

And they asked him, saying, Why then do you immerse if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?

And the multitudes said, This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.

And fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet has risen up among us; and, God has visited His people.

Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.

Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.

Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, Truly this is the Prophet.

They said to the blind man again, What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

For Moses truly said to the fathers, The Lord your God will raise up to you a Prophet like me from among your brethren. You shall hear Him in all things, whatever He says to you.

And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.
