After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

But if that wicked servant says in his heart, My master delays his coming,

For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it speaks forth to the end, and it does not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, because it will come and take place; it will not tarry.

But if that servant says in his heart, My master is delaying his coming, and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk,

Then He began to tell the people this parable: A certain man planted a vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time.

For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not linger.

and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were since the beginning of creation.

by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.

But, beloved, do not be unaware of this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

But hold fast what you have till I come.

And He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, What? Were you not able to watch with Me one hour?

And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

Shulamite: By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him.

Shulamite: I sleep, but my heart is awake; it is the sound of my beloved! He knocks, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my perfect one; for my head is covered with dew, my locks with the drops of the night.

And the sailors were afraid, and each man cried to his god. And they threw out the ship's implements into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah had gone down into the hold of the ship; and he lay down, and was sound asleep.

And the captain came near to him and said to him, What is this, O sleeper? Rise up and cry out to your God! Perhaps your God will think on us, and we will not perish.

And He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, Simon, are you sleeping? Were you not strong enough to watch one hour?

Watch and pray, that you not enter into temptation. The spirit truly is willing, but the flesh is weak.

I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?

And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

Therefore He says: Awake, you who sleep, stand forth out from among the dead, and Christ will shine on you.

Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
