Surely the blood of your souls will I require; at the hand of every living thing will I require it, and at the hand of man. At the hand of every man's brother I will require the soul of man.

Whoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God He made man.

Thus you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood pollutes the land. And no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who sheds it.

Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said, May Jehovah take notice, and require it!

from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required from this generation.
