And immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, Why do you reason these things in your hearts?

But knowing their thoughts, answering, Jesus said to them, Why are you reasoning in your hearts?

And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him beside Himself,

But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why do you test Me?

and had no need that anyone should bear witness of man, for He knew what was in man.

And I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the inner thoughts and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and tempting Him, asked that He would show them a sign out of Heaven.

and in the morning, It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening. Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.

The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for just any reason?

And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some.

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.

Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.
