2 Kings 17:14-23

Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who had not believed in Jehovah their God.

And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He had testified against them; they went after their vanities, became vain, and went after the nations who were all around them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them that they should not do like them.

And they left all the commandments of Jehovah their God, made for themselves molten images, two calves, made a grove and bowed down to all the host of the heavens, and served Baal.

And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced divination of witchcraft and fortunetelling, and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger.

Therefore Jehovah was very angry with Israel, and removed them away from before His face; there was no one left but only the tribe of Judah.

Also Judah did not keep the commandments of Jehovah their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they had made.
20
And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel, afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of plunderers, until He had cast them away from before His face.

For He tore Israel from the house of David, and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Jeroboam drove Israel from following after Jehovah, and made them sin a great sin.

For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they have not departed from them,

until Jehovah had removed Israel from before His face, as He had said by all His servants the prophets. Thus Israel was carried away from their own land into Assyria, as it is this day.

And Jehovah the God of their fathers sent to them by the hand of His messengers, rising early to send them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.

Now at the right time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

And again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.

And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out.

Then the owner of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Perhaps they will respect him when they see him.

But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, so that the inheritance may become ours.

So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

He will come and destroy these vinedressers and give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it they said, Let it not be!
17
And He looked at them and said, What then is this that is written: The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner?
18
Whoever falls on that stone will be broken in pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him.
19
And the chief priests and the scribes that same hour sought to lay hands on Him, but they feared the people; for they knew He had spoken this parable against them.
