By pride comes nothing but strife, but with those who deliberate is wisdom.

And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant with Jacob and John.

Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it might be who was about to do this thing.

And He said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors.

Love is longsuffering and is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast itself, is not puffed up;

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or self-glory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others as surpassing himself.

But if you have bitter envy and contention in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

For where envy and contention exist, there is confusion and every evil deed.

Moreover the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Where do wars and fightings come from among you? Do they not come from your lusts that war in your members?

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The Spirit who dwells in us yearns to envy?

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Likewise you that are younger, be subject to your elders. Yes, all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
