And when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.

Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many works of power in Your name?

And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who work out lawlessness!

And everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be likened to a foolish man who built his house on the sand;

and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.

If you should say, How shall we persecute him? since the root of the matter has been found in me,

A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

The wicked desires the net full of evils, but the root of the righteous yields fruit.

And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the Word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of trial draw back away.

Jesus answered them and said, Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples murmured about this, He said to them, Does this offend you?

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh does not profit; not a thing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

And He said, Therefore I have said to you that no one is able to come to Me unless it has been granted to him from My Father.

Jesus answered them, Did I not choose you, the twelve, but one of you is a devil?

He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who was about to betray Him, being one of the twelve.

I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for apart from Me there is not a thing you are able to do.

If you abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall happen unto you.

You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not upright before God.

For I see that you are in bitter wickedness and bound by unrighteousness.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any power, but a new creation.

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the full true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his sins of the past.

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that not all of them are of us.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

And you will be hated by everyone on account of My name. But he who endures to the end will be kept safe.

But he who endures to the end shall be kept safe.

For what is the hope of the hypocrite when he is cut off, when God draws out his soul?

Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he always call upon God?

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; he has left off acting wisely and doing good.

O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is like a morning cloud, and it goes away like the early dew.

eternal life to those who steadfastly doing good, seek for glory, honor, and incorruptibility;

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it unto the day of Jesus Christ;

who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Blessed are they who have been persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven, for in this manner they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life on account of Me will find it.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when affliction or persecution arises on account of the Word, immediately they stumble.

And when He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.

And you will be hated by everyone on account of My name. But he who endures to the end shall be kept safe.

Then He said to them all, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or suffers loss?

If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it;

saying, This man began to build and was not able to finish.

Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks terms of peace.

But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers on account of My name.

Therefore settle it in your hearts not to premeditate a defense;

And you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.

But not a hair of your head shall at all perish.

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it unto eternal life.

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, My Father will honor him.

As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

for Demas has deserted me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica; Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not linger.

But we are not of those who draw back to destruction, but of those who believe to the preserving of the soul.

I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

So they were offended in Him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.

And blessed is he who does not stumble because of Me.

Then they will deliver you up to affliction and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.

And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

Then Jesus said to them, All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

Peter answered and said to Him, Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.

This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me, among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
