Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell down upon the ground and prostrated himself;

One has gone up to the house, even to Dibon, the high places, to weep. Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba; baldness shall be on all their heads, and every beard cut off.

And in that day Jehovah of Hosts called for weeping and mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth.

O daughter of my people, put on sackcloth, and wallow in ashes; make mourning for yourself, as for an only son, most bitter wailing; for the destruction shall suddenly come upon us.

Cut off your hair and throw it away, and take up a lamentation on the desolate heights. For Jehovah has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.

Both the great and the small shall die in this land. They shall not be buried, nor shall men mourn for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them.

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation. And I will bring up sackcloth on all loins, and baldness on every head. And I will make it like the mourning for an only one; and the end of it like a bitter day.

The eye of the tender and dainty woman among you, who would not have ventured to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her delicateness and tenderness, will quiver with hostility toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son and her daughter,

and toward her afterbirth which comes forth from between her feet and her children whom she bears; for she shall eat them secretly for lack of everything in the siege and desperate straits in which your enemy shall distress you in all your gates.

Furthermore Jehovah says, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched out necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and make a tinkling with their feet;

In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, and their headbands, and their crescents of the moon,

the turbans, and the leg ornaments, and the sashes, and the perfume boxes, and the amulets;

the festal apparel and the outer garments; and the mantles, and the purses;

And it shall be, instead of a smell of perfume, there shall be an odor of decay. And instead of a belt, a rope. And instead of well set hair, baldness. And instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty.

And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she shall sit desolate on the ground.

Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the streets; those brought up in scarlet embrace refuse heaps.

Her Nazirites were purer than snow, whiter than milk; they were redder of body than rubies; their polishing as sapphires.

You shall beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.

In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and settled them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says Jehovah.

And some of your sons which shall come forth from you, which you shall beget, shall be taken away; and they shall be officials in the palace of the king of Babylon.
