because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew and your brow bronze.

O Jehovah, are not Your eyes on the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have destroyed them, but they have refused to receive correction; they have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to return.

The bellows are scorched, the lead is consumed by the fire; the refiner melts in vain; for the wicked are not drawn off.

Rejected silver they call them, because Jehovah has rejected them.

But they refused to heed, and gave a stubborn shoulder, and they made their ears heavy that they might not hear.

And they made their heart adamant so as not to hear the Law and the Words which Jehovah of Hosts has sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. And great wrath came from Jehovah of Hosts.

you who turn justice into wormwood, and lay righteousness to rest on the earth.

So, therefore because you trample on the poor, and you take tribute of grain from him; you have built houses of hewn stones, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted desirable vineyards, but you shall not drink wine from them.

Shall the throne of iniquity, which fashions trouble by decree, have fellowship with You?

They gather together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

in transgressing and lying against Jehovah, and backsliding from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

And justice is driven back, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the street, and uprightness cannot enter.

They have spoken words, swearing vanity in making a covenant. Thus judgment springs up like hemlock in the furrows of the field.

You have plowed wickedness; you have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies because you trusted in your own way, in the multitude of your mighty men.

Both hands are on evil, to do it well. Both the ruler and the judge ask for a bribe. And the great one speaks the lust of his soul; and they weave it together.

Why do You show me evil, and You cause me to look upon toil? For destruction and violence are before me; and there is strife, and contention rises up.

On account of this the law has become feeble, and justice does not continue to go forth. For the wicked surrounds the righteous, so justice goes forth, perverted.

You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always oppose the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they, who received the Law by the command of angels and did not keep it, killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One,
