You who put the evil day far away, and cause the seat of violence to come near,

who lie on beds of ivory and stretch themselves on their couches; and those eating the lambs from the flock, and calves from the midst of the stall;
5
who chant with the sound of the lute; they invent instruments of song for themselves like David;
6
who drink wine from bowls, and anoint themselves with the best of ointments; but they are not grieved for the crushing of Joseph!
7
Therefore they shall go into captivity with the first of the captives, and the feast of those who recline shall come to an end.
2 Kings 17:7-18

For so it was that the children of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and they feared other gods,

and had walked in the statutes of the nations whom Jehovah had cast out before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
9
And the children of Israel secretly did things against Jehovah their God that were not right, and they built for themselves high places in all their cities, from watchtower to fortified city.
10
They set up for themselves sacred pillars and groves on every high hill and under every green tree.
11
There they burned incense on all the high places, like the nations whom Jehovah had carried away before them, and did evil things to provoke Jehovah to anger;
12
for they served idols, of which Jehovah had said to them, You shall not do this thing.
13
Yet Jehovah testified against Israel and against Judah, by the hand of all of His prophets and every seer, saying, Turn away from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the Law which I have commanded your fathers, and which I have sent to you by the hand of My servants the prophets.
14
Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who had not believed in Jehovah their God.
15
And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He had testified against them; they went after their vanities, became vain, and went after the nations who were all around them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them that they should not do like them.
16
And they left all the commandments of Jehovah their God, made for themselves molten images, two calves, made a grove and bowed down to all the host of the heavens, and served Baal.
17
And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced divination of witchcraft and fortunetelling, and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger.
18
Therefore Jehovah was very angry with Israel, and removed them away from before His face; there was no one left but only the tribe of Judah.
2 Kings 18:12
because they had not obeyed the voice of Jehovah their God, but transgressed His covenant and all that Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded; they had neither heeded nor done them.
Ezekiel 23:5-9

Oholah committed adultery even though she was Mine; and she lusted for her lovers, the neighboring Assyrians,

who were clothed in purple, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.

Thus she committed her adultery with them, all of them choice men of Assyria; and with all for whom she lusted, with all their idols, she defiled herself.

She has never given up her harlotry brought from Egypt, for in her youth they had lain with her, fondled her virgin breasts, and poured out their immorality upon her.

Therefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, for whom she lusted.
Hosea 4:1
Hear the Word of Jehovah, you sons of Israel, for Jehovah has a complaint against the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
Hosea 4:2
Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and the committing of adultery burst forth. And blood touches against blood.
Hosea 4:11-14

Harlotry and wine and new wine snatch away the heart.

My people seek advice from their wooden idols, and their magic wand expounds to them. For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray, and they have committed adultery against their God.

They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinth, because their shade is good. On account of this, your daughters shall prostitute themselves, and your brides shall commit adultery.
14
I will not punish your daughters when they prostitute themselves, nor your brides when they commit adultery. For the men themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with temple prostitutes. Therefore the people who do not understand will be thrust down.
Hosea 7:7-10

They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges. All their kings have fallen; not one among them calls unto Me.

Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples. Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9
Strangers have eaten up his strength, yet he does not know it. Yea, gray hairs are sprinkled here and there on him, yet he does not know it.

And the pride of Israel testifies to his face. And they do not return to Jehovah their God, nor seek Him for all this.
Hosea 8:4-6

They have set up kings, but not by Me. They have made rulers, but I did not acknowledge it. They made idols for themselves with their silver and their gold, so that they may be cut off.

O Samaria, your calf has cast you off. My anger is kindled against them. How long until they attain to innocence?

For it was also from Israel: The craftsman made it, but it is not God. But the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
Hosea 13:2
And now they sin more and more, and they have made themselves molten images of their silver, idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen. They say of them, Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves.
Hosea 13:3
Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away, as chaff driven from the threshing floor by the storm, and as smoke out of the chimney.

Are there yet in the house of the wicked the treasures of wickedness, and the abominable short ephah?

Shall I declare to be pure the wicked balances, or the bag of deceitful weight stones?

For her rich ones are full of violence, and her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Therefore I also will make you sick by striking you, making you desolate because of your sins.

You shall eat, but not be satisfied, and your emptiness shall be in your midst; and you will move back, but shall not be safe; and that which you rescue, I will give to the sword.

You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall tread the olive, but you shall not anoint yourselves with oil; and new wine, but shall not drink wine.

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab. And you walk in their counsels, so that I may make you a desolation, and your inhabitants a hissing. And you shall bear the reproach of My people.
