If a man takes his brother's wife, it is an unclean thing. He has uncovered his brother's nakedness. They shall be childless.

If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the widow of the dead man shall not be married to a strange man outside the family; her husband's brother shall go in to her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.

For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

Because John had said to him, It is not lawful for you to have her.

saying: Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed for his brother.

For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; for he had married her.

Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife and raise up seed for his brother.
