And Jehovah said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes.

And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day; do not approach your wives.

And let the priests who come near Jehovah sanctify themselves, that Jehovah not break forth against them.

Get up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says Jehovah the God of Israel: There is a devoted thing in your midst, O Israel; you are not able to stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.

And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Do not deprive one another except by agreement for a time, that you may be free for fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
