As I watched Tyre, Ephraim was planted in a pleasant place. But Ephraim shall lead out his sons to the slayer.

Ephraim is stricken; their root is dried up; they shall bear no fruit. Yea, though they bear, yet I will kill the beloved ones of their womb.

Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look and fail with longing for them all day long; and there shall be no might in your hand.

You shall beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.

Locusts shall dispossess all your trees and the produce of your land.

The sword from outside, and the terror from within, shall bereave the young man and virgin, the nursing child and the man of gray hairs.

If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

And I will winnow them with a pitch fork in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children; I will destroy My people, since they have not turned back from their ways.

For thus says Jehovah concerning the sons and concerning the daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them, and concerning their fathers who begot them in this land:

They shall die from deaths of diseases; they shall not be mourned, nor shall they be buried. But they shall be as dung on the face of the earth. They shall be destroyed by the sword and by famine; and their carcasses shall be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth.

Behold, O Jehovah, and consider to whom You have done this. Shall the women eat their offspring, children of their tender care? Shall the priest and the prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?

For Jehovah had said of them, They shall die the death in the wilderness. Thus there was not left a man of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

But Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth Hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not one was left.

What will you do in the appointed day, and in the day of the feast of Jehovah?

For, lo, they are gone because of destruction. Egypt shall gather them up; Memphis shall bury them. Nettles shall possess their valuables of silver; thorns shall be in their tents.

Woe to them! For they have fled from Me. Ruin to them! For they have transgressed against Me. Though I redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against Me.

And My anger will burn against them in that day, and I shall forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?

But the Spirit of Jehovah had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovah had fallen upon him.

And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you disturbed me to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, either by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, to make known to me what I should do.

Then Samuel said: Why then do you ask me, seeing Jehovah has departed from you and is your enemy?

Therefore Jehovah was very angry with Israel, and removed them away from before His face; there was no one left but only the tribe of Judah.

until Jehovah had removed Israel from before His face, as He had said by all His servants the prophets. Thus Israel was carried away from their own land into Assyria, as it is this day.
