When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to King Jareb. Yet he could not heal you, nor did he cure you of your wound.

Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart; they call to Egypt; they go to Assyria.

For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself. Ephraim has hired lovers.

Ephraim feeds on wind, and follows after the east wind; all the day he multiplies lies and ruin. And they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him: Because you have leaned on the king of Syria, and have not trusted on Jehovah your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand.

Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself, saying, You have chastised me, and I was chastised, like an untrained bull; draw me back, and I shall return. For You are Jehovah my God.

Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a delightful child? For as often as I spoke against him, I call to mind and remember him still. Therefore My heart is stirred for him; I will have mercy and compassion upon him, says Jehovah.

How long will you vacillate, O backsliding daughter? For Jehovah has created a new thing in the earth; a woman shall contain a man.

And he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for Jehovah has said to you, You shall not return that way again.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of Jehovah our God.

They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright.

A horse is a vain thing for safety; neither shall he provide escape by his great strength.

who set out to go down to Egypt and have not asked at My mouth, to strengthen themselves in the refuge of Pharaoh and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!

But you said, No; for we will flee on horses. Therefore you shall flee. And you said, We will ride on the swift; therefore those who pursue you shall be swift.

Now Egypt is a man, and not the Mighty God; and their horses are flesh, and not Spirit. When Jehovah shall stretch out His hand, both he who helps shall fall, and he who is helped shall fall down, and they shall all be finished together.

Now then, please exchange pledges with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are even able on your part to put riders on them.

Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard and observed him. I am as a green cypress tree; your fruit is found in Me.

For I will take away the names of the Baals out of her mouth; and they shall no more be remembered by their name.

For they shall be ashamed of the mighty trees which you desired; and you shall be ashamed of the gardens that you have chosen.

In that day a man shall throw his idols of silver and gold, which they made each man to bow down to, to the moles and to the bats;

Therefore by this shall the iniquity of Jacob be atoned; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in pieces, the groves and idols shall not stand.

Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your defilement and from all your idols.

They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them out of all their dwelling places where they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Thus they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

And He said to me, Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever. No more shall the house of Israel defile My holy name, they nor their kings, by their harlotry or with the carcasses of their kings on their high places.

Now let them put their harlotry and the carcasses of their kings far away from Me, and I will dwell in their midst forever.

And it shall be in that day, that I will cut off your horses out of your midst, and I will destroy your chariots, declares Jehovah.

And I will cut off sorceries out of your hand, and there shall not be any more conjurers.

And I will pluck your groves from your midst, and I will destroy your cities.

And it shall be in that day, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no longer be remembered, says Jehovah of Hosts. And I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

You shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child.

and My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

But You have seen it, for You pay attention to trouble and provocation; to repay it with Your hand. The poor commits himself to You; You are the Helper of the fatherless.

In His holy dwelling God is a father to the fatherless, and a judge for the widows.

Jehovah watches over the sojourners; He relieves the fatherless and widow; but the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

Do not remove the ancient landmarks, and do not enter into the fields of the fatherless;

for their Redeemer is mighty; He shall plead their case against you.

I will not leave you orphans; I am coming to you.
