And the king commanded. And they brought Daniel, and they threw him into the den of lions. The king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually will deliver you.

And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den. And the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his nobles, that the matter concerning Daniel might not be changed.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Jehovah delivers him out of them all.

You have brought us into the net; You have laid affliction upon our loins.

You have allowed men to ride over our heads; we have gone through fire and through water, but You have brought us out into plenty.

then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us.

then the churning waters would have gone over our soul.

And they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit of Malchijah the son of Hammelech, which was in the court of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And there was no water in the pit, only mud. So Jeremiah sank into the mud.

My enemies have hunted me down like a bird, without cause.

Waters flowed over my head; then I said, I am cut off.

For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened exceedingly, beyond strength, so that we despaired even of life.

who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us, in whom we hope that He will still deliver us,

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is achieving for us a surpassing and eternal weight of glory,

Beloved, do not be astonished at the fiery trial which is to try you, as though something unheard of was happening to you;

but rejoice in so far as you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also rejoice with exceeding joy.
