Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and understanding in their own sight!

Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

Tarshish traded with you because of the multitude of your wealth. They gave you silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods.

Those from the house of Togarmah traded for your wares with horses, steeds, and mules.

Syria traded with you because of the abundance of goods you made. They exchanged for your wares emeralds, purple, embroidery, fine linen, corals, and rubies.

Damascus traded with you because of the abundance of goods you made, because of your great wealth, with the wine of Helbon and with white wool.

Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding.

The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you. They exchanged for your wares the choicest spices, all kinds of precious stones, and gold.

These traded with you in choice items; in purple clothes, in embroidered work, in cedar chests of multicolored apparel, bound tightly with cords, which were in your marketplace.

Your oarsmen brought you into many waters, but the east wind has broken you in the midst of the seas.

The open lands will shake at the sound of the cry of your sailors.

They will make their voice heard because of you; they will cry bitterly and cast dust on their heads; they will wallow in ashes;

And in their wailing for you they will take up a lamentation, and lament for you: What city is like Tyre, destroyed in the midst of the sea?

But you are broken by the seas in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and the entire company will fall in your midst.

The merchants among the peoples will hiss at you; you will become a terror, and be no more forever.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.

And by great waters, the seed of Sihor and the harvest of the River was her revenue; and she is a marketplace for the nations.

Who has advised this against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are rulers, whose traders are the honorable of the earth?

He is a merchant; the scales of deceit are in his hand; he loves to oppress.

And Ephraim said, I am rich; I have found much wealth for myself. In all my labors they shall find no iniquity in me that is sin.

And Tyre shall build a fortress for herself, and shall pile up silver like the dust, and gold like the mud of the streets.

Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to this city, spend a year there, do business, and make a profit;

whereas you do not know what will be tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Because your heart is lifted up, and you say, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas, yet you are a man, and not the Mighty God, though you set your heart as the heart of God

Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

houses full of all good things, which you have not filled, hewn-out wells which you have not dug, vineyards and olive trees which you have not planted; when you have eaten and are full;

then be on guard that you not forget Jehovah who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;

when your heart is lifted up, and you forget Jehovah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

Behold, you say that you have struck the Edomites, and your heart is lifted up to boast. Stay at home now; why should you excite yourself to evil, that you should fall; you and Judah with you?

And many brought gifts unto Jehovah at Jerusalem, and choice things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the eyes of all the nations thereafter.

But Hezekiah did not return according to the favor shown him, for his heart had become haughty; therefore wrath was over him and over Judah and Jerusalem.

If I have made gold my hope, or said to fine gold, you are my confidence;

if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had acquired much;

Behold, the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and was strong in his wickedness.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.

He who trusts in his riches shall fall, but the righteous shall sprout like foliage.

lest I be full and deny You and say, Who is Jehovah? Or lest I be poor and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

For he says, Are not my commanders all like kings?

As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose graven images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria;

And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has completed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, I will punish the fruit of the proud heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of his haughty looks.

And my hand has found, as a nest, the riches of the people; and as one gathers eggs that are left, I have gathered all the earth; and there was no one who moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

The king spoke and said, Is this not great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom, by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and honor the King of Heaven, for all His works are truth, and His ways are justice. And He is able to humble those who walk in pride.

When they had pasture, they were filled. They were filled, and their heart was exalted. Therefore they have forgotten Me.

Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.

So he said, I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger, and there I will gather all my fruits and my goods.

But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be high-minded, nor to trust in the uncertainty of riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
