What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are dull?

As I live, declares the Lord Jehovah, you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.

As the proverb of the ancients says, Wickedness proceeds from the wicked. But my hand shall not be against you.

and say, Thus says the Lord Jehovah to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth are from the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.

You are your mother's daughter, loathing her husband and children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.
