My eyes fail with tears; my stomach is upset; my liver is poured on the ground for the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the children and the babies faint in the streets of the city.

Zion spreads forth her hands, but no one comforts her. Jehovah has commanded concerning Jacob that his enemies should be all around him; Jerusalem has become as an impure thing among them.

They hear that I sigh; but no one comforts me. All my enemies have heard of my evil; they are glad that You have done it. You will bring the day that You have called, and they shall be like me.

There is no one to guide her among all the sons she has borne; and no one takes her by the hand of all the sons that she has raised.

These two things have come upon you, who shall be sorry for you? Desolation, and destruction, and famine, and the sword. By whom shall I comfort you?

My brothers have dealt deceitfully. Like a brook, like the streams of the brooks, they pass away;

He has removed my brothers far from me, and my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.

My relatives have left, and my close friends have forgotten me.

I was a reproach among all my enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and an object of dread to my friends; those who saw me outside have fled from me.

All the brothers of the poor man hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him? He pursues them with words, yet they are nowhere to be found.

Put no faith in a companion; put no trust in a friend; keep the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom;
