For I have heard a voice as of a woman in labor, the anguish as of one bearing her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, gasping and spreading her hands, saying, Woe to me now! For my soul is weary because of murderers.

Those who survive will escape and be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, each for his iniquity.

They will also be girded with sackcloth; trembling will cover them; shame will be on every face, and baldness on all their heads.

Therefore I will wail and howl; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackals, and mourning like the daughters of the owl.

For her wounds are incurable; for it has come to Judah; it has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.

Is Israel a servant? Or is he a homeborn slave? Why is he plundered?

Behold, he shall come up like clouds, and his chariots like a tempest. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us, for we are plundered!

Destruction upon destruction is proclaimed; for the whole land is devastated. Suddenly my tents are destroyed, my curtains in a moment.

And you, what will you do when you are ruined? Though you dress with crimson, though you put on ornaments of gold, though you make your eyes large with paint, you shall make yourself beautiful in vain; your lovers will despise you; they will seek your life.

And you shall grope at noonday, as a blind man gropes in darkness; you shall not prosper in your ways; you shall be only oppressed and plundered all your days, and no one shall deliver you.

Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers; our houses to foreigners.

In that day one shall take up a parable against you and wail a mournful lamentation, saying, We are devastated in utter ruin. He has changed the possession of my people. How He has removed it from me! To the turncoat He has divided the fields.

for the land is defiled. Therefore I am visiting its depravity upon it, and the land is vomiting out its inhabitants.

that the land not also vomit you out when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you.

You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and do them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out.

They cried out to them, Depart! Unclean! Depart, depart! Do not touch us! When they fled and wandered, they said among the nations, They will not continue to live there.

Rise up and depart. This is not your rest, for it is unclean. It shall destroy with grievous destruction.
