The Word which came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion, and all the peoples, fought against Jerusalem and against all its cities; saying,

Declare in Judah, and let it be heard in Jerusalem; and say, Blow the shofar in the land; cry out, gather together, and say, Gather yourselves and let us go into the fortified cities.

Why do we sit still? Gather yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there. For Jehovah our God has put us to silence, and has given us bitter water to drink, because we have sinned against Jehovah.

Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry to the gods to whom they offer incense. But they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which Jehovah your God has given to you.

Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying,

And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that Jehovah cast down large hailstones from the heavens upon them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the sons of Israel had killed with the sword.

the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah,

Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,

And in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, I have done wrong; turn away from me; whatever you impose upon me I will endure. And the king of Assyria assessed Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

And Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he heard that he had departed from Lachish.

O inhabitant of Lachish, harness the chariot to the swift steeds; she is the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

So Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

Beth Zur, Sochoh, Adullam,

Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built fortresses and towers.
