For a voice declares from Dan, and proclaims affliction from Mount Ephraim.

Like keepers of a field, they are against her all around; because she has rebelled against Me, says Jehovah.

My stomach, my stomach! I am convulsed to my heart! My heart groans within me; I cannot be silent because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the shofar, the alarm of war.

They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride on horses, set in array against you as men of war, O daughter of Zion.

We have heard the rumor of it; our hands become feeble; anguish has taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in labor.

Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a distant land. Is not Jehovah in Zion? Is not her King in her? Why have they provoked Me to anger with their graven images, with foreign vanities?

For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion. How we are plundered! We are greatly ashamed, because we have forsaken the land, because they have thrown down our tents.

A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a howling of the majestic ones of the flock shall be heard; for Jehovah has spoiled their pasture,

Thus says Jehovah: A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are not.

Thus says Jehovah: Refrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says Jehovah. And they shall come back from the land of the enemy.

And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea; and if one looks to the land, behold darkness and distress; and the light is darkened by clouds.

We all roar like bears, and mourn with moaning like doves; we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.

Therefore Jehovah the God of Hosts, the Lord, says this: There shall be wailing in all the streets, and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! Alas! And they shall call the farmer to the mourning, and those that are skilled in wailing to lamentation.

Woe to those who desire the day of Jehovah! Of what good is this to you? The day of Jehovah is darkness, and not light.

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation. And I will bring up sackcloth on all loins, and baldness on every head. And I will make it like the mourning for an only one; and the end of it like a bitter day.

And it shall be in that day, declares Jehovah, the sound of a cry from the Fish Gate, and a howling from the Second, and a loud crashing from the hills.

Howl, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people have perished; all those who carry silver are cut off.

And as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,

For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and besiege you on every side,

And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring;

men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

For behold the days are coming in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed.

Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back? And their mighty ones are beaten down and have fled for refuge, and they do not look back. Terror is all around, says Jehovah.
