For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and, My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

Jehovah also spoke to me again saying,

Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

therefore behold, the Lord brings up upon them the waters of the River, strong and abundant, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels and go over all his banks.

Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?

As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose graven images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria;

The burden against Damascus: Behold, Damascus is removed from being a city, and it shall be a heap of ruins.

The cities of Aroer are forsaken; now they are for flocks which lie down, and no one makes them afraid.

And the fortress shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the rest of Syria. They shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, says Jehovah of Hosts.

And it shall come to pass in that day that the glory of Jacob shall be laid low, and the fatness of his flesh shall be made lean.

And it shall be as the gathering of grain at harvest, and his arm reaps the heads of grain. And it shall be as he who gathers heads of grain in the Valley of Rephaim.
