For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry; for the spirit would grow faint before Me, and the souls I have made.

Would He contend with me in His great power? No! But He would set me in place.

i1 [A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.] i0 par O Jehovah, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, neither chasten me in Your fury.

For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.

O Jehovah, correct me, but with justice; not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.

For I am with you, says Jehovah, to save you. Though I make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not make a complete end of you; but I will correct you in justice, and will not acquit nor leave you unpunished.

Do not fear, O Jacob My servant, says Jehovah, for I am with you. For I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you. But I will not make a complete end of you, but will correct you in justice; and I will not leave you acquitted nor unpunished.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also provide a way out, that you may be able to bear it.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,

Why will you be stricken any more? Will you rebel more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart is faint.

Come now and let us reason together, says Jehovah: Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of Jehovah has spoken.

And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, please judge between Me and My vineyard.

What more could have been done to my vineyard that I have not done in it? Why then, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield rotten grapes?

And the children of Israel cried out unto Jehovah, saying, We have sinned against You, because we have both forsaken our God and served the Baals!

Also the Sidonians and Amalekites and Maonites have oppressed you; and you cried out to Me, and I delivered you from their hand.

Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your time of distress.

And they put away the foreign gods from among them and served Jehovah. And His soul was grieved because of Israel's troubles.

Have you not brought this upon yourself, in that you have forsaken Jehovah your God, when He led you by the way?

Your own evil shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you. Therefore know and see that it is an evil and bitter thing that you have forsaken Jehovah your God, and that My fear is not in you, says the Lord Jehovah of Hosts.

Yet I planted you a noble vine, a true seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate shoots of an alien vine to Me?

How can you say, I am not defiled; I have not gone after the Baals? See your way in the valley, know what you have done! You are a swift camel crisscrossing its ways.

Withhold your foot from being bare, and your throat from thirst. But you said, There is no hope. No! For I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.

saying to a tree, You are my father; and to a stone, You gave birth to me. For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face; but in the time of their distress they will say, Arise and save us!

Why will you plead with Me? You all have rebelled against Me, says Jehovah.

O generation, see the Word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness to Israel, or a land of darkness? Why do My people say, We roam freely; we will come no more to You?

Why do you beautify your way to seek love? Therefore you have also taught the evil women your ways.

Yet you say, Because I am innocent, surely His anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with you, because you say, I have not sinned.

Indeed, you shall go out from this place, with your hands on your head. For Jehovah has rejected those in whom you trust, and you will not prosper by them.

Hear the Word of Jehovah, you sons of Israel, for Jehovah has a complaint against the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

Come, and let us return to Jehovah. For He has torn, and He will heal us. He has stricken, and He will bind us up.

After two days He will restore us to life. In the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His presence.

And My people are bent on backsliding from Me. Though they call to the Most High, no one at all exalts Him.

I will not execute My burning anger; I will not return to destroy Ephraim. For I am the Mighty God, and not a man, the Holy One in your midst. And I will not enter into the city with terror.

Mountains, and you enduring foundations of the earth, hear the contention of Jehovah, for Jehovah has a quarrel with His people, and He will argue with Israel.

For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of bondage; and I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam before you.

Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger! And the staff in their hand is My indignation.

I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of My wrath. I will command him to draw out the plunder, and to seize the spoils, and to trample them like the mud of the streets.

And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has completed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, I will punish the fruit of the proud heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of his haughty looks.

Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; with the remainder of wrath You shall gird Yourself.

But He, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity, and did not destroy them; yea, many a time He turned His anger away, and did not stir up all His wrath;

At that time it shall be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind from the desolate heights in the wilderness blows toward the daughter of My people, not to sift nor to cleanse.

For thus Jehovah has said, The whole land shall be desolate, yet I will not make a full end.

But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit. Her strong branches were broken and withered; the fire consumed them.

Though he is fruitful among brothers, an east wind shall come. The wind of Jehovah shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall be disappointed because his fountain shall be dried up. He shall plunder the treasure of all desirable vessels.
