One has gone up to the house, even to Dibon, the high places, to weep. Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba; baldness shall be on all their heads, and every beard cut off.

Jehovah, in trouble they have visited You; they have poured out a prayer when Your chastening was upon them.

And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kirjath Huzoth.

And it was the next day, that Balak took Balaam and brought him up to the high places of Baal, that from there he might observe the extent of the people.

For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you shall also be captured. And Chemosh shall go into captivity along with his priests and his rulers.

And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.

Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh perish; for your sons have been taken captive, and your daughters into captivity.

You are wearied by your many counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers and the fortunetellers step forth and save you from what shall come upon you.

Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?

and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men's hands; wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them.

But our God is in Heaven; He has done whatever He pleased.

They have mouths, but they do not speak; eyes they have, but they do not see;

they have hands, but they do not handle; feet they have, but they do not walk; nor do they utter through their throat.

They are crafted into hammered work like a palm tree, and they cannot speak. They must be lifted up and carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they are not able to do evil, neither is it in them to do good.
