Wealth makes many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor.

The poor is hated even by his own neighbor, but the rich has many friends.

My lovers and my friends stand at a distance from my plague; and my relatives stand afar off.

You have removed my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot go out;

Lover and friend You have removed far from me, and my acquaintances into darkness.

And a poor wise man was found in it, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no one remembered that poor man.

And I said, Wisdom is better than strength; but the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

But you have dishonored the poor. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you to the judgment seats?

Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

And he cried out, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!

So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him,

The poor speaks humble requests, but the rich answers roughly.

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,

and one of you says to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
