I will extend my ear to a parable; I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them,

that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.

to understand a proverb and an enigma; the words of the wise, and their difficult sayings.

He answered and said to them, Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but to them it has not been given.

But He did not speak to them without a parable. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.
