i1 [A Song of Ascents of David.] i0 par Unless it had been Jehovah who was for us, let Israel now say:

i1 [A Song of Ascents of David.] i0 par Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

(Now the man Moses was very meek, more than any man on the face of the earth.)

that his heart may not be lifted up above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his sons in the midst of Israel.

And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of Jehovah rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Then one of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who knows how to play, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and Jehovah is with him.

And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my eyes.

And David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger burned against David, and he said, Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and your naughty heart, for you have come down to see the battle.

And David said, What have I done now? Was it not just words?

And Saul's servants spoke those words in David's ears. And David said, Is it a slight thing in your eyes to be a king's son-in-law, seeing as how I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest unto your souls.

serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews;

Nor did we seek honor from men, either from you or from others, when we might have been authoritative as apostles of Christ.

But we were gentle among you, just as a nurse cherishes her own children.

You are witnesses, and God also, how holily and uprightly and blamelessly we were among you who believe;

He also chose David His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;

So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

As for me, I have not hurried away from being a shepherd who follows You; nor have I desired the woeful day; You surely know the going forth of my lips before Your face.

And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, says Jehovah. But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places wherever you go.

Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I was not a prophet, nor was I the son of a prophet, but I was a herdsman and one gathering sycamore fruit.

And Jehovah took me from following the flock, and Jehovah said to me, Go, prophesy to My people Israel.

Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

Such knowledge is incomprehensible to me; it is high, I am not able to reach it.

You asked, Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge? So I have proclaimed what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
