Behold, You have made my days as a handbreadth, and my age is as nothing before You. Surely every man, even though standing tall, is total vanity. Selah.

Surely every man walks about like a shadow! Surely they are stirred up in vain. He heaps up the produce, and does not know who shall gather it.

And he had a choice and handsome son whose name was Saul. There was not a more handsome person than he among the sons of Israel. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.

And he stood and called out to the ranks of Israel, and said to them, Why have you come out to be arrayed for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.

And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.

Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their strong man was dead, they fled.

And Saul said to his armorbearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it.

And when his armorbearer saw that Saul had died, he also fell on his sword, and died with him.

Now in all Israel there was no one as handsome as Absalom, and highly praised. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

Now the counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if one had inquired at the Word of God. So was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not carried out, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city, put his house in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father's tomb.

And Joab said, I cannot wait before you. And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom's heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree.

And they took Absalom and cast him into a large pit in the forest, and laid a very large heap of stones over him. And all Israel fled, everyone to his tent.

Vanity of vanities, says the preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

What is the profit to a man in all his labor which he labors under the sun?

Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done, and on the labor that I had labored to do; and, behold, all was vanity and striving of spirit; and there was no profit under the sun.

For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin.

Vanity of vanities, says the preacher; all is vanity.

For truly I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the Law till all is fulfilled.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will by no means pass away.

The Law of Jehovah is perfect, converting the soul; the Testimony of Jehovah is sure, making wise the simple.

The Statutes of Jehovah are upright, rejoicing the heart; the Commandments of Jehovah are pure, illuminating the eyes.

But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Let it not be! On the contrary, I would not have understood sin except through the Law. For I would not have known lust unless the Law had said, You shall not covet.

I was alive once apart from the Law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

For sin, taking occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.

For the Word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

And there is no creature that is not revealed in His presence, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must give answer.
