Psalm 78:4-8

We will not hide them from their children, recounting to the following generation the praises of Jehovah, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a Law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should declare them to their children;

that the following generation might know them, the children who would be born, that they might arise and recount them to their children,
7
that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of the Mighty God, but keep His commandments;
8
and might not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set its heart aright, and whose spirit has not been faithful to the Mighty God.

And He commissioned Joshua the son of Nun, and said, Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land of which I have sworn to them, and I shall be with you.

So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this Law in a book, when they were finished,

that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, saying:

Take this Book of the Law, and put it inside the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, to be there as a witness against you;
27
for I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. If today, while I am yet alive with you, you have been rebellious against Jehovah, then how much more after my death?
28
Gather to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears and call Heaven and earth to testify against them.
29
For I know that after my death you will pervert yourselves to corruption, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days, because you will do evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger through the work of your hands.

And Moses spoke in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song to their conclusion:
Joshua 4:6
that this may be a sign among you when your children ask in time to come, saying, What are these stones to you?
Joshua 4:7
Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel for all time.
