You put my feet in the stocks, and watch all my paths. You set a limit for the soles of my feet;

know then that God has bowed me, and has surrounded me with His net.

He keeps back his soul from the Pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

Man is also chastened with pain on his bed, and with perpetual strife in his bones,

The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death have confronted me.

Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and irons;

The bands of death have encompassed me, and the distress of Sheol has fallen upon me; I found trouble and sorrow.

He walled up my ways with hewn stone; my paths are crooked.

His own iniquities shall capture the wicked, and he shall be held with the cords of his sin.
