You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am Jehovah.

Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers,

Likewise exhort the young men to be of sound mind,

Likewise you that are younger, be subject to your elders. Yes, all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Both the grayheaded and the aged are among us, much older than your father.

Are you the first man who was born? Or were you made before the hills?

Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger burned against David, and he said, Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and your naughty heart, for you have come down to see the battle.

And he turned from him toward another and spoke the same words; and these people answered him according to the first words.
