But I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to argue with the Mighty God.

Now put down a pledge for me with Yourself. Who is he who will strike hands with me?

Oh, that I knew where I might find Him, that I might come to His place!

I would know the words which He would answer me, and understand what He would say to me.

There the upright could reason with Him, and I would be delivered forever from my Judge.

Behold, I am as your spokesman before the Mighty God; I also have been formed out of clay.

Then Jehovah answered Job out of the tempest, and said:

Now gird up your loins like a man; I will consult with you, and you declare unto Me.

Behold, I have been vile! What shall I answer You? I have put my hand to my mouth.

Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.

Remove Your hand far from me, and let not the dread of You make me afraid.

Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and You respond to me.

Why do You hide Your face, and regard me as Your enemy?

He has also kindled His wrath against me, and He counts me as one of His enemies.

Oh, that my words were now written! Oh, that they were inscribed in a book!

That they were forever engraved on a rock with an iron pen and lead!

Yet He finds opposition in me, He counts me as His enemy;

He puts my feet in the stocks, He watches all my paths.

Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
