If you encounter your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall bring it back to restore it to him.

If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving it to him; you shall help him set it free.

You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.

But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who abuse you and persecute you,

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth;

who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but gave Himself over to Him who judges righteously;

not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, in order that you may inherit blessing.

Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to say a word before God. For God is in Heaven, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.

Do not permit your mouth to cause your flesh to sin; do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands?

But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, Empty head! shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, You fool! shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.

But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. Thus the tongue is set among our members, defiling the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by Gehenna.

With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the image of God.

Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, it is not fitting that these things be this way.
