My face is flushed from weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

My eye has wasted away because of grief; it has grown weak because of all my enemies.

Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah, for I am in trouble; my eye has wasted away with grief; even my soul and my belly.

For my life has been spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones have wasted away.

Our heart is faint because of this; our eyes are dim because of these things.

I am gone like a shadow when it lengthens; I am shaken off like a locust.

For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he spends as a shadow? For who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
