Let darkness and the shadow of death redeem it; let a cloud settle on it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

There is no darkness nor shadow of death where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

Have the gates of death been disclosed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

though You have crushed us in the place of dragons and covered us with the shadow of death.

Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of oblivion?

Nor did they say, Where is Jehovah who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of dry places, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man lived?

Give glory to Jehovah your God, before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, nor can those from there pass to us.
