So the runners passed from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun; but they laughed at them, mocking them.

with the hypocrites, mockers, for a cake, they gnashed at me with their teeth.

So then do not be mockers, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard from the Lord Jehovah of Hosts that an annihilation is decreed upon the whole earth.

They have denied Jehovah and said, It is not He; neither shall evil come upon us; nor shall we see sword nor famine.

And the prophets shall become wind, for the Word is not in them; thus it shall be done to them.

O Jehovah, You have deceived me, and I was deceived. You are stronger than I, and You have prevailed. I am in derision all the day; everyone mocks me.

For He will be delivered up to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon.

Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him.

And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?

Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him vinegar,

Others mocking said, They are full of sweet wine.

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some ridiculed, while others said, We will hear you again concerning this matter.

Still others had trial of mockings and floggings, yes, and of bonds and imprisonment.

Because I have called, and you refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one pays attention,

I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your terror comes;

Then they shall call upon me, and I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me.

They did not desire my counsel; they despised all my reproof.

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him.

Behold, you despisers, marvel and perish. For I work a work in your days, a work which you will by no means believe, though one were to declare it to you.

Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why do you prophesy and say, Thus says Jehovah, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it,

And they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit of Malchijah the son of Hammelech, which was in the court of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And there was no water in the pit, only mud. So Jeremiah sank into the mud.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven, for in this manner they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.

And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.

Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, They will respect my son.

So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.

They said to Him, He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will deliver to him the fruits in their seasons.

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they, who received the Law by the command of angels and did not keep it, killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One,

i1 [A Psalm of Asaph.] i0 par O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your holy temple they have defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.

How long, Jehovah? Will You be angry forever? Will Your jealousy burn like fire?

Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; he shall be broken in an instant without remedy.

A man who hardens his neck when reproved shall be suddenly broken, and there will be no healing.
