And it came about, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and thought, Surely the anointed of Jehovah is before Him.

But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look at his appearance nor at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For man does not see as He sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks at the heart.
8
So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this one.
9
Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this one.
10
Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, Jehovah has not chosen these.
11
And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all the young men here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is grazing the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.
12
And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and good appearance. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!
13
And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of Jehovah rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
2 Samuel 7:8-16

Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, Thus says Jehovah of Hosts: I have taken you from the pastures, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.
9
And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.
10
Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, without being disturbed; nor shall the sons of unrighteousness afflict them anymore, as before,
11
since the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. And Jehovah has declared to you that He will make you a house.
12
When your days are fulfilled and you have rested with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
13
He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
14
I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the strokes of the sons of men.
15
But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
16
And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.
