Now these were the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: The firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second, Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelitess;

the fifth, Shephatiah, by Abital; the sixth, Ithream, by his wife Eglah.

Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, that his heart not be turned aside; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself.

And David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron. Also more sons and daughters were born to David.

And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives thrust away his heart.

Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth,

as a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times, and always be intoxicated in her love.

and I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands like fetters. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be captured by her.

and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?

He said to them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to put away your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
