And David arose and crossed over with the six hundred men who were with him to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

So Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.

Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David remained two days in Ziklag,

when someone told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good news, I took him and killed him in Ziklag; the reward I gave him for his news.

Ner begot Kish, Kish begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

These were the heads of the mighty men with David, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the Word of Jehovah concerning Israel.

and said, Far be it from me, O my God, to do this. Shall I drink the blood of these men with their souls? For at the risk of their lives they have brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men.

These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and won a name among the three mighty men.

Behold, he was honored among the thirty, but he did not attain to the first three. And David appointed him over his guard.
