In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and settled them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by utterly destroying them; and shall you be delivered?

So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria; and he carried the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into captivity. He brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the River Gozan to this day.

For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. Within sixty- five years Ephraim shall be broken so that it shall not be a people.

For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and, My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

And all the people shall know; Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and insolence of heart,

Therefore Jehovah shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and spur his enemies on;

For the people do not turn to Him who strikes them, nor do they seek Jehovah of Hosts.

The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

Therefore the Lord shall not rejoice over their young men, nor shall He have mercy on their orphans and widows; for everyone is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks foolishness. In all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Through the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts the land is scorched, and the people shall be as fuel for the fire; no man shall have compassion on his brother.

Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and together they shall be against Judah. In all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger! And the staff in their hand is My indignation.

shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her idols?

Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed: Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar?

Israel is swallowed up. They are now among the nations as a vessel in which is no pleasure.

For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself. Ephraim has hired lovers.

They shall not live in the land of Jehovah. But Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.

Hear this word which I am taking up against you, a lamentation, O house of Israel.

For thus says the Lord Jehovah, The city that goes out by a thousand shall have a hundred left. And that which goes out by a hundred shall have ten left to the house of Israel.

Have you drawn near with sacrifices and food offerings to Me forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

Therefore I will exile you beyond Damascus, says Jehovah, whose name is God of Hosts.

You also took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, images which you made to do homage; and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
