to enter into the covenant with Jehovah your God, and into His oath, which Jehovah your God is making with you today,

to establish you today as a people for Himself, to be, Himself, your God, just as He has spoken to you, and as He has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

I am making this covenant and this oath, not only with you,
15
but with him who stands here with us today before Jehovah our God, as well as with him who is not here with us today
Jeremiah 31:31-34

Behold, the days are coming, says Jehovah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah,

not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them, says Jehovah.
33
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel: After those days, says Jehovah, I will put My Law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

And they shall no more teach each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says Jehovah. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.
Hebrews 8:6-13

But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

For if that first had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.

Because finding fault with them, He says: Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant, and bring fulfillment to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah;

Take heed to yourselves, that you not forget the covenant of Jehovah your God which He has made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which Jehovah your God has forbidden you.

For Jehovah your God is a consuming fire, a jealous Mighty God.
25
When you beget children and grandchildren and have been in the land a long time, and have acted corruptly and made a carved image in the form of anything, and have done evil in the eyes of Jehovah your God to provoke Him to anger,
26
I call the heavens and the earth to witness against you this day, that you shall quickly die and perish from off the land which you are crossing over the Jordan to possess; you shall not prolong your days in it, but shall be destroyed to annihilation.
27
And Jehovah will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations where Jehovah will drive you.
Deuteronomy 13:1-18
1
If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,
2
and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them;
3
you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
4
You shall walk after Jehovah your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and cleave unto Him.
5
But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken apostasy away from Jehovah your God, who is bringing you out of the land of Egypt and is redeeming you from the house of bondage, to thrust you out of the way in which Jehovah your God has commanded you to walk. Thus you shall put away the evil from your midst.
6
If your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter, the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, secretly entices you, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers,
7
of the gods of the people all around you, near to you or far off from you, from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth,
8
you shall not consent to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him or conceal him;
9
but you shall kill him to death; your hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people.
10
And you shall stone him with stones so that he dies, because he has sought to thrust you away from Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
11
Thus all Israel shall hear and fear, and not again do such wickedness as this among you.
12
If you hear someone in one of your cities, which Jehovah your God gives you to dwell in, saying,
13
Corrupt men have gone out from among you and impelled the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known;
14
then you shall inquire, search out, and ask thoroughly. And if it is indeed true and the matter is firmly established that such an abomination has been done among you,
15
you shall strike to kill the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword; utterly destroying it, all that is in it and its livestock, with the edge of the sword.
16
And you shall gather all its plunder into the middle of the open place, and completely burn with fire the city and all its plunder, before Jehovah your God. It shall always remain a heap; it shall not be built again.
17
And none of the accursed things shall cleave to your hand, that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of His anger and show you mercy, have compassion on you and multiply you, just as He has sworn to your fathers,
18
because you heeded the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep all His commandments which I am commanding you today, to do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah your God.
Joshua 23:7
and that you not go among these nations, these remaining among you. You shall not make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause anyone to swear by them; you shall not serve them nor bow down to them,

When you have transgressed the covenant of Jehovah your God, which He has commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of Jehovah will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which He has given to you.
