(Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and taken Gezer and burned it with fire, had killed the Canaanites who dwelt in the city, and had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.)

And Solomon made himself son-in-law to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and married Pharaoh's daughter; and he brought her into the City of David until he had finished building his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall all around Jerusalem.

And the house where he dwelt had another court inside the porch, of similar workmanship. Solomon also made a house like this porch for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken as wife.

And Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the house he had built for her; for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David, king of Israel, because the places to which the ark of Jehovah has come are holy.

So David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the City of David. And David built all around from the fortifications and inward.

And this is the reason for the labor force which King Solomon raised: to build the house of Jehovah, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

And this was the matter for which he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon had built the Millo and repaired the breaches to the City of David his father.

And he strengthened himself, built up all the wall that was broken, raised it up to the towers, and built another wall outside; he also restored the Millo in the City of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
